What is the single most important factor with
interlocking brick systems?
- SAND by far is the most important
factor to any interlocking brick system. Without sand between the joints, your brick pavers can loose the friction between
the pavers causing them to shift. Thus sealing is your best protection.
What type of sand is swept between the joints?
When we use Surebond Joint Stabilizing Sealer we use
a fine-screened sand.
When we use Techni-Seal Acrylic Sealer we use polymeric sand.
What is Polymeric sand?
- A high-tech mix graded
sand and binder, formulated to harden between paving joints to inhibit weed growth. - On average polymeric sand will
last 1-1 ˝ years depending on the weather conditions.
What are the procedures to cleaning and sealing
your brick pavers?
- 2 man crew is mobilized to your home.
- All the vegetation along the driveway, patio, or walkway is
covered up with tarps to protect them from the cleaning.
- Bricks are power washed with 5:1 mix of water to paver cleaner
to remove existing weeds and moss from the contaminated joints. The cleaner helps remove existing stains and dirt from
the top of the brick surface.
- Debris from the cleaning is washed down to leave the property
looking the same as when we showed up.
- Driveway is allowed to dry for 24 hours. Why? In
order for the sealer to be effective the joints between the bricks must be dry.
- Sand is swept back between the joints and the excess is blown
off the top of the bricks.
- The sealer is applied by spraying the top of your pavers and
simultaneously drawing off the excess sealer with a squeegee to ensure all the joints are adequately flooded.
- The sealer needs to dry approximately 24 hours before allowing
vehicle traffic to drive on it. On the surface, the sealer dries to the touch within 2 hours, but takes the joints 24 hours
to set up properly.
How do you repair sunken or heaved bricks?
- Repair your brick
pavers for the most part is a simple task. In most cases, repairs only require pulling up the affected areas.
Followed by the following steps: a. Add gravel and re-compact b. Add your 1 inch sand base c. Re-install
your bricks and sweeping sand back between the joints. d. Re-compacting the repair area to lock your bricks back in
place.
